Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2017 04 17 – Various people look through dolostone at the Ace of Diamonds mine in Middleville, New York. They are searching for Herkimer Diamonds, which are double terminated quartz crystals.

2017 04 18 – Camera batteries, sticky notes, Magic the Gathering cards and USB keys fill a holder on my desk; clutter builds up quickly in front of the computer.

2017 04 22 – A pre-release pack of Amonkhet, the newest set released by Magic the Gathering, sits on a table while attending a sealed pre-release night at SBT Comics and Games. I won several games and lost several, so it wasn’t a bad night.

2017 04 23 – The battlefield is busy in this pre-release game amongst two players at SBT Comics and Games. This weekend was the pre-release for Amonkhet, the newest addition to Magic the Gathering.

2017 04 10 – A scruffy looking tabby cat seeks attention off Napier Street in downtown Kingston. There are more male orange tabby cats then females, approximately 4:1.

2017 04 11 – A red-winged blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) perches on a cattail at the Lemoine Point Conservation Area. They are polygamous, sometimes having up to 15 mates.

2017 04 12 –Tezzeret, a Planeswalker from the Aether Revolt: Magic the Gathering set release in January of 2017.

2017 04 13 – Harvey’s buffalo chicken sandwich and onion rings that I ate for dinner during a movie night. A group of friends and I watched the original 1981 Evil Dead.

2017 04 14 – My cousin stairs into the mesmerizing screen of her phone while playing a game during a family Easter gathering.

2017 04 15 – A grandmother and her grandson stand on the sidewalk beside Brock Street in downtown Kingston as it rains.

2017 04 16 – Mineral collectors work hard at removing rock at the Herkimer Diamond Mine in Middleville, New York. Near the end of the day they hit a pocket pulling out some nice Herkimer Diamonds (double terminated quartz crystals).

2017 04 03 – A beautiful sunrise paints the sky red and purple, silhouetting trees off Coronation Boulevard west of Kingston. Sunrise on April 3rd was at 6:42 a.m..

2017 04 04 – These banana muffins are almost ready to be taken out of the oven. I used a banana bread recipe from “The Pleasures of Cooking; 1993; p552”, they turned out pretty well.

2017 04 05 – A Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia) at Lemoine Point Conservation Area clings to a branch. There are 24 recognized subspecies.

2017 04 06 – Large puddles form in the back parking area after a solid day of rain. Kingston had over 40 mm (1.57 in) of rainfall during the day, with 33 mm (1.29 in) two days before.

2017 04 07 – Ken and Heather said their vows at noon on the 3rd floor of City Hall, 10 years after proposing. It was a small bridal party, simple and fun.

2017 04 08 – Scaffolding outside of a building on Brock Street casts shadows across the sidewalk. Sockets in cave walls approximately 17,000 years ago in Lascaux indicate the use of scaffolding to paint cave walls.

2017 04 09 – Military personal march along West Street east of City Park in Kingston after the 100th anniversary ceremony of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.  Ceremonies were held across the country and at Vimy Ridge in France honouring those who fought for freedom and peace. Over three days, April 9th, 1917 to April 12th, 1917, 3,598 Canadian lost their life, with another 7,000 wounded.

2017 03 20 – Dense fog reduces visibility during the early morning commute in Kingston’s west-end. In some places north of Kingston it was freezing fog.

2017 03 21 – A black capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) grabs a sunflower seed at Lemoine Point Conservation Area. The fatty kernel inside if highly sought after by wintering birds.

2017 03 22 – The front of a 26 passenger school bus is reflected off the driver’s side crossover mirror. This mirrors help see what is directly in front of the vehicle.

2017 03 23 – A 76 seat school bus is seen through the window of a 26 seat school bus just before our afternoon run.

2017 03 24 – A section of a multi-piece mudstone slab from the Mackenzie Mountains used in studying Cryogenian aged life forms. The Cryogenian is a geological period ranging from 720 to 635 million years ago.

2017 03 25 – Two flats of amethyst collected from Pearl, Ontario. I put these together to show a co-worker who was interested in getting some.

2017 03 26 – The new date stamp for passport photographs. Another worker bought this one a few weeks ago as the last one ended in 2016 and the other one was awkward to use.
