Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2016 01 18 – A student’s breath is seen against the rising sun while they make their way to class along a path at Summer Hill.

2016 01 19 – Frozen finger like structures extend out from the shoreline on a rock as water laps back and forth on a cold January day.

2016 01 20 – Two icicles are contrasted against a burgundy wall off Brock Street. These small icicles are practically harmless, although every year icicles kill several people.

2016 01 21 – The berries of an ash tree are silhouetted against a blue sky with a few clouds, these trees are threatened by the emerald ash borer.

2016 01 22 – Queen’s Gael #5, Jamie Wright watches as #7, Tyler Scheerhoorn contacts the ball making a pass while taking on the York Lions. Queen’s took 3 straight sets to win the match 3-0.

2016 01 23 – Kate models some active wear for an upcoming clothing event organized by Thrifted Queen’s. It is a club that promotes community through eco-art, fashion and sustainable living.

2016 01 11 – Emily and Savannah hold up a mantle xenolith from British Columbia. This specimen is going to be our research rock for GEOL452, instrumental techniques applied to mineralogy.

2016 01 12 – A Queen’s students makes her way alongside University Avenue on a blustery snowy day holding a Booster Juice. Booster Juice originated in Sherwood Park, Alberta in 1999.

2016 01 14 – A plow makes their way down Arch Street in the morning after a night of snow. Kingston has approximately 27 plows to clear around 1,800 km of road lanes.

2016 01 15 – Queen’s Gael #6, Joseph Luongo and Concordia Stingers #19, Scott Oke race for the puck during a home game at the Memorial Centre. The Stingers defeated the Gaels 4-3.

2016 01 16 – Queen’s Gael goalie #30, Kevin Bailie keeps his eyes on the puck while the UQTR Patriotes try to score during a home game at the Memorial Centre. Queen’s lost to UQTR 2-3.

2016 01 04 – A guy is silhouetted in between the Time sculpture at Break Water Park, as the sunsets on a cold January evening. This was the coldest day so far, with temperatures around -20°C.

2016 01 05 – A squirrel is silhouetted against a cloudy sky at Summer Hill in Kingston, Ontario. A squirrel’s tail has three main purposes: protection, balance and communication.

2016 01 06 – A engineering students makes their way along the path beside Gordon-Brockington Hall wearing a swimsuit, sandals and his GPA. The task is to wear only those three items for the week. Upon completion they get the Frost Week bar.

2015 12 28 – A long-eared owl (Asio otus) sits high in a cedar tree in the owl woods on Amherst Island. There are six subspecies of long-eared owls.

2015 12 29 – Fresh snow covers the shoreline at McDonald Park with the Newlands Pavilion in the background. The pavilion was built in 1896 and renovated in 1979.

2015 12 30 – This particular calcite specimen is from Tsumeb, Namibia and was purchased from David Joyce at the Bancroft mineral show.
