Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2013 Week 43 Photos

2013 Week 43 Photos
(21st week photographing)

By Corey Lablans Photography

This week’s photos focused on the life around Queen’s University, other then the last photos, which some could argue would work. Fall is a fun time, nice colours and of course pumpkins, enjoy.
2013 10 21 – A person jogs in front of a building being demolished at the corner of Stuart and Albert Street in Kingston, Ontario. The corner of Stuart and Albert will be the site of one of the two new residences to be built at Queen’s, part of a project worth approximately $70 million.

2013 10 22 – A student sits on the sign in front of Stauffer Library at Queen’s University. The library was built in 1994 and cost approximately $42 million.

2013 10 23 – Students examine pumpkins outside the John Deutsch University Centre during the weekly farmers market. One of the historical beliefs behind the jack-o’-lanterns is that they are used to ward away evil spirits. The earliest record in the U.S. of jack-o’-lanterns stems back to 1866.

2013 10 24 – Students sit on couches in the Lower Ceilidh of the John Deutsch University Centre studying. Ceilidh is a Gaelic term referring to a place of social gathering.

2013 10 25 – A pumpkin meets its demise during this year’s pumpkin smash behind Leonard Hall at Queen’s University. The event was held by the Engineers Without Boarders (Queen’s Chapter), for information on the organization check out their website: http://queensu.ewb.ca/

2013 10 26 – Members of the Queen’s men’s rugby form a maul against McMaster during the semi-final game at Nixon field. Rain and heavy wind didn’t make playing conditions favourable but Queen’s defeated McMaster 38 – 3.

2013 10 27 – A bottle of Wild Turkey American Honey stands beside a glass of Ginger Ale in mid pour with the first volume of Walking Dead propped up behind. Wild Turkey comes from a distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky built in 1869 and is part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

2013 Week 42 Photos

2013 Week 42 Photos
By Corey Lablans Photography

This past week definitely lead to a random set of photos. After watching some cooking shows the week before I got into a cooking mood, which lead to a series of food photos. After that the usual random life around Queen’s University filled the rest of the week until Sunday’s adventure to Canada’s Wonderland.
2013 10 14 – Decided to cook a soup that I saw in Canadian Living (Nov. 2012 issue). Never made a soup before but it turned out well, a potato, cheddar and chive soup.

2013 10 15 – It was 10:00 p.m. and I had not taken a photo. Over the past few days the idea of making cookies had been on my mind, thus coming to the ultimate conclusion, make Snickerdoodles and photograph them.

2013 10 16 – Garlic shrimp on a bed of basmati rice covered in sweet and sour sauce; According to this website, shrimp have many nutrient benefits: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=107

2013 10 17 – A student walks down Frontenac Street, as beautiful fall colours line the sidewalk. In the summer leaves produce energy for the trees by the means of chlorophyll which gives them their green appearance, during the fall, as the trees get ready for the winter, the chlorophyll stops production, it begins to fade and the new wave lengths of light are able to produce the yellows and oranges.

2013 10 18 – A fourth year Fine Arts student at Queen’s University carves out wood while working on a large print. The fourth year students will be heading down to a university in Massachusetts to print their creations, the only location near by that allows for printing of such a large medium.

2013 10 19 – Harrison Hendrix of the Queen’s Gaels faces off against a player from Brock University during Friday night’s game at the Memorial Centre. Queen’s is currently ranked 4th in the east with Brock ranked 9th in the west. Queen’s won 5-2.

2013 10 20 – Numerous people attending Canada’s Wonderland and working as actors wonder their way through fake fog inside the entrance during Halloween Haunt. Various Halloween mazes have been set up throughout the park; this coming weekend is the last weekend, open 7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. Thursday to Sunday.

THANK YOU
Get out and photograph, preserve what is happening around you.
