Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2015 05 18 – People watch the Victoria Day fireworks from the front entrance of DuPont. A mixture of strontium and copper compounds produces the purple colour.

2015 05 19 – A mallard duck interrupts another while resting along the shoreline at Confederation Park. Twice a year mallards shed their flight feathers preventing them from flying.

2015 05 20 – A fox stands along the shoulder of the Thousand Island Parkway near Landon Bay. North America’s native red fox is a northern animal living in the boreal forest. In the 1700’s Europeans introduced foxes in the southern region for hunting.

2015 05 21 – Players from Sydenham High School and Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School battle for the ball during the Kingston Area Secondary School Athletics Association junior girls championship game. Regi defeated Sydenham 4-1, claiming this year’s KASSAA Championship.

2015 05 22 – A Tim Horton’s employee hands over a free Creamy Chocolate Chill along 5 Field Company Lane, as they tour around promoting Tim’s new frozen drink.

2015 05 23 – A kite boarder takes to the air out in Lake Ontario off Breakwater Park in Kingston early in the season. Water temperatures were around 7 degrees Celsius with wind gust up to 20 kilometers per hour.

2015 05 24 – A cow is silhouetted on a hill off Moscow Road near Moscow, Ontario. A cow’s stomach is divided into four compartments, the rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasums.

2015 05 11 - A player from Regiopolis Notre-Dame Catholic Secondary School stops the ball in mid- air while a player from Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School follows beside during a junior girls soccer game. Regi maintained control of the ball winning 5-0.

2015 05 12 – A player from Kingston Collegiate Vocational Institute tackles a Holy Cross Catholic High School player during a quarter-final game. Holy Cross ended up winning 24-7.

2015 05 13 – An Eastern Grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) enjoys eating a baby carrot in a garden at Summer Hill, Queen’s University. The genus name, Sciurus comes from two Greek words, skia meaning shadow and oura meaning tail.

2015 05 14 – A garden of white tulips bloom in front of Dunning Hall at Queen’s University. Tulips are within the lily family (Lilaceae) with approximately 76 different species.

2015 05 15 – A player from Frontenac Secondary School passes the ball during a semi-final game against La Salle Secondary School. Heading into the game La Salle was ranked in first place with Frontenac in 6th, La Salle won 24-3.

2015 05 16 – Munchi is my brother’s girlfriend’s cat, who is 8 years old. Domestic cats descended from African wildcats, diverging approximately 8,000 BC in West Asia.

2015 05 17 – A pickerel frog sits in the water at Greens Creek off the Ottawa River. It is called the pickerel frog because commonly it used as bait when fishing for Pickerel.

2015 05 04 – Senior girl soccer players from Kingston Collegiate Vocational Institute (KCVI) and Bayridge Secondary School compete for the ball during a regular season game at Tindal Field. KCVI defeated Bayridge 5-0.

2015 05 05 – A trilobite collected this past weekend from the Arkona shale at the northern river bank in Hungry Hollow, Ontario. Many excellent phacops and greenops trilobites can be found there.

2015 05 06 – Construction workers perform maintenance on the storm sewer and water main behind the Louise D Acton Building at Queen’s University.

2015 05 07 – A Kingston Collegiate Vocational Institute rugby player tosses the ball to another player while being taken down by numerous girls from La Salle Secondary School. The La Salle Knights defeated the KCVI Blues 22-5.

2015 05 08 – A player from the Frontenac Secondary School lacrosse team picks up the ball, as another player from Holy Cross Catholic High School follows right behind. These are the only high school lacrosse teams within Kingston this year, with players on the Frontenac’s team coming from various schools.

2015 04 30 – Two goats lock horns while ramming each other at the Riverview Park and Zoo in Peterborough, Canada’s only free accredited zoo.

2015 05 01 – A plow makes its way across a field in Arkona, as wind turbines are seen in the background. The construction of approximately 45 wind turbines was approved in 2013.

2015 05 02 – Members of various geology clubs from Ontario look through the clay at Hungry Hollow for various Devonian aged fossils. A wide array of fossils such as trilobites, brachiopods, cephalopods and corals can be found.
