Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2013 Week 46 Photos

2013 Week 46 Photos
(24th week photographing daily)
By Corey Lablans Photography

-->
Started off photographing people walking around Queen’s campus and then veered away. It is difficult to stick with a theme during these last weeks of the semester. The next two weeks will likely be a random amalgamation of photographs. Starting in December I shall try for a theme week. Anyways here are last weeks photos:

-->
2013 11 11 – Students walk across the street at Union and University on Queen’s Campus. Later that night was the first sign of snow here in Kingston, as a few flakes fell.
-->
2013 11 12 – A Queen’s student bikes across University Avenue on this beautiful day. It was a nice crisp cool day with winds coming from the Northwest and a wind-chill around -7 degC, a sign that winter is on its way.
-->
2013 11 13 – Queen’s students walk down Earl Street beyond the Athletics and Recreational Centre.
-->
2013 11 14 – A Queen’s student spins a hula-hoop during a Health and Wellness Showcase in the Athletics and Recreational Centre main gym. The hula-hoop was invented in 1911 but the use of twirling something around ones waist has been around for a long time.
-->
2013 11 15 – Johnathan stands in front of the John Deutsch University Centre.

-->
2013 11 16 – Traffic drives down Princess Street just after work at 5:00 p.m. The sun was up for 9 hours 34 minutes and 44 seconds, setting at 4:37 p.m.
-->
2013 11 17 – A wide array of fossils spanning across a large time scale (400 Million Years) and a wide range of locations makes up a portion of my mineral and fossil collection. Approximately 1/3 of the fossils I found, 1/3 was given to me out collecting and the other 1/3 I purchased.
 THANK YOU

By Corey Lablans Photography

Here are photos from week 45 of 2013, my 23rd week photographing on a daily basis. There are only 3 more weeks left before I have reached half a year, enjoy!
2013 11 04 – A circumzenithal arc is seen in the bright blue sky amongst the cirrus clouds.  It is formed when the sun is lower then 32 degrees in the sky and light refracts through tiny plate shaped ice crystals forming the rainbow affect directly above.

2013 11 05 – A Queen’s student is dressed in a polar bear outfit to promote this coming weekend’s Queen’s Global Innovation Conference occurring Friday and Saturday. For information check out their website: www.qgic.ca

2013 11 06 – Queen’s students examine mineral specimens during the 17th annual Gem and Mineral Sale at the Miller Museum. The sale runs through till Friday, November 8th, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with various mineral, fossil and gem specimens for sale.

2013 11 07 – A gull flies behind Miller Hall originally constructed in 1931 and host the Miller Museum of Geology. It is named after Willet Green Miller, a professor of geology and petrology at Queen’s University; in 1973 the Bruce wing was added.

2013 11 08 - Queen’s Gaels #18 Harrison Hendrix lock sticks with Toronto Varsity Blues #24 Dylan Heide during a regular season OUA game at the Memorial Centre. Queen’s is ranked 1st in the east with UofT ranked 6th in the west. Queen’s defeated UofT 3-1.

2013 11 09 – The Kirkpatrick Fountain in front of the Frontenac Country Court House was built in 1903 in honour of Lt. Col. Sir George Airey Kirkpatrick. The courthouse was completed in 1858 and was designated as a National Historic Site in 1980.

2013 11 10 – Cujo is one of the two cats living at my friends house and has been for five years. There are four different types of tabbies: Mackerel, Classic, Ticked and Spotted.

2013 Week 44 Photos

2013 Week 44 Photos
(22nd Week Photographing)
By Corey Lablans Photography

There was no consistency with this past week’s photos but I really like the diversity. The week was a weather sandwich starting off nice and sunny, then switching to high winds and rain, finally finishing off with nice weather.
2013 10 28 – An eastern chipmunk sits on a branch at Lemoine Point Conservation Area during later afternoon. There are three main families of chipmunk: the eastern, western and Siberian chipmunk with the western chipmunk having numerous members.

2013 10 29 – The Grant Hall tower is seen behind beautiful maple leaves that have turned colour. The original clock was mechanically operated but was changed in 1993 to an electrical mechanism. The original mechanism can be observed in Stirling Hall.

2013 10 30 – Over the last two days I have been studying a math test on implicit differentiation, related rates, Taylor polynomials and optimization. Anyways, didn’t get around to taking a photo today until now, so I decided to represent the last two days through this photo, while having fun with lighting.

2013 10 31 – A guy walks down Albert Street dressed in an unusual mixture of Captain America and a frilly tutu on Halloween. There are five main categories of tutus: Romantic, Classical (Pancake), Balanchine/Karinska and the Platter.
In 1941 Captain America appeared in the first of the Captain America comics.

2013 11 01 – Queen’s students try to escape a rushing wave breaking over the pier wall near Break Water Park. Wind gusts were reaching speeds of approximately 100km/h causing huge waves to develop.

2013 11 02 – Scott Macdonell, #84 of the Queen’s Gaels, reaches forward crossing the end zone for the last touch down of the semi-final game against the Guelph Gryphons; Queen’s won 34- 17.

2013 11 03 – A new rotor is screwed on to my Honda Fit, while Ryan and James show me how to go about changing breaks. Thank you Ryan and James.
