Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2015 06 22 – A police vehicle just turned off its lights after being parked outside of the new apartment building being built at the corner of Victoria and Princess Street. Three police vehicles were positioned at different locations around the building. (I am unsure of what the circumstance was.)

2015 06 23 – Various Queen’s University staff and students enjoy the annual summer barbeque at Grant Hall. Minutes after this photograph was taken everyone headed for cover as it started to rain.

2015 06 24 – Nicely dressed individuals walk by purple top verbenas in front of the John Deutsch University Centre on Wednesday. Butterflies and bees are attracted to this ornamental flower native to South America.

2015 06 25 – A canna blooms outside of Gordon Hall at Queen’s University. It is sometimes referred to as the canna lily, although it is not a true lily.

2015 06 26 – A guy enjoys the beautiful sun while resting against the Time sculpture at Break Water Park. Created in the 1970’s, it is made of aluminum alloy and developed by Alcan.

2015 06 27 – A member of the Central Canadian Federation of Mineralogical Societies (CCFMS) carries a rock to his vehicle while attending a collecting trip at the Marmoraton Iron Mine. Numerous minerals can be found at this location such at garnets, epidote, actinolite, magnetite and many others.

2015 06 28 – A pot of petunias hang from the front porch at home. The genus is within the Solanceae family, which includes tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco and eggplants.

2015 06 15 – The Confederation Arch at Confederation Basin reflects off the calm water after the fountain was shut off. The arch was built in 1967 to celebrate Canada’s centennial, 1867-1967.

2015 06 16 – A stack of geology and geography books from various courses, from first year History of Life to third year Geochemistry, sit on a shelf at home.

2015 06 17 – Queen’s University staff talk with suppliers during the annual Preferred Suppliers Show held at the BioScience Atrium. Hosted by the Strategic Procurement Services, their role is to oversee acquisition of products and services on behalf of the University.

2015 06 18 – A girl heads out in a kayak from Ahoy Rentals off Ontario Street. Ahoy Rentals rents bikes, canoes, kayaks, and sailboats, as well as providing sailing charters.

2015 06 19 – A young girl enjoys a gooey s'more at the Bancroft Tent & Trailer Park. Some people are afraid of marshmallows and this fear is known as Althaiophobia.

2015 06 20 – A rabbit sits in our backyard vegetable garden. This rabbit is quite a bit smaller then the world’s largest rabbit named “Darius,” currently weighing in at 50 pounds and is 4 feet 3 inches long.

2015 06 08 – A new graduate from Queen’s University gets his photograph taken with relatives in front of the Queen’s University sign at the corner of Union and University. In the foreground is a roll of PVC piping being used for construction along Union Street.

2015 06 09 – Fog lingers across Queen’s University campus as various people get ready for the 10:00 a.m. convocation for students in biology, chemistry and the school of graduate studies.

2015 06 10 – A lady reaches for the ketchup while another waits after getting their food from the chip truck on Union Street in front of Miller Hall.

2015 06 11 – A seagull tears pieces off a dead water snake along the Rideau Trail beside Breakwater Park. This particular gull is a Ring-billed gull Larus delawarensis.

2015 06 12 – Two students try to shelter themselves from the intense downpour as they walk along University Avenue. Cherrapunji, India holds the record for the most rain in one year with a total of 1042 inches back in 1860.

2015 06 13 – People admire the stalactites inside the Bonnechere Caves in Eganville. Stalactites are icicle-shaped structures hanging from the ceiling, whereas stalagmites form from the ground upwards; both are produced by minerals precipitating out of solution (water).

2015 06 14 – Members of the Central Canadian Federation of Mineralogical Societies stand amongst a forest south of Eganville at the “Lost Mine.” This is a mineral-collecting locality well known for apatite and titanite crystals, this time we found many nice zircons.

2015 06 01 – Despite the colder temperatures on Monday a few people were out enjoying Kingston’s beautiful waterfront, such as this person reading at Confederation Basin.

2015 06 02 – Two Canada geese guide their goslings through the water at Lower Brewers Lock north of Joyceville, Ontario. The Canada geese were introduced to New Zealand in 1905, eventually leading to many ecological problems.

2015 06 03 – April and her family are photographed behind Douglas Library after April received her degree from Queen’s University in the Faculty of Education.

2015 06 04 – Students, parents and staff listen to the head of the geological engineering department at a reception in Miller Hall prior to their graduation.

2015 06 05 – A freshly cooked lobster awaits its fait during the 10th Annual Lobsterfest fundraiser at the University Club. Hosted by ThinkFirst Kingston, an organization under the larger charitable organization Parachute, they strive to promote injury prevention.

2015 06 06 – Toronto firefighters douse a pile of hay with water that caught on fire along the hydro lines beside the Humber River.  Spontaneous combustion of hay can occur as bacteria break down the glucose producing energy building up heat.
