Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2016 10 17 – The last leaves on a tree outside of Bruce Hall hold on as cooler temperatures move in. The following day there were no leaves left on this tree.

2016 10 18 – A student checks something on his phone while walking between classes at Queen’s University. A bright fall maple tree makes for an excellent background, along with the beautiful architecture of Summer Hill.

2016 10 19 – Students take a break at the Smith School of Business. It was named after Stephen J.R. Smith who donated $50 million back in 2015, the largest donation ever made to a Canadian business school.

2016 10 20 – Leaves line 5 Field Company Lane as a students walks through a puddle on a rainy day.

2016 10 21 – People wait for the bus on University Avenue as it pours during a second straight day of rain.

2016 10 22 – The Five Star Farm off Scanlan Road in Sydenham held a family fun day with hay rides, pumpkin carving and fun activities. A little rain didn’t hold people back from coming out and having fun.

2016 10 23 – A few people enjoy the beautiful lookout at Rock Dunder, a hiking trail in Morton, Ontario. Hundreds of people made the hike on this beautiful day. The highway was lined with cars in both directions.

2016 10 10 – A preying mantis (Mantis religiosa) on top of flowers near Glenburnie, Ontario. These mantids originated in Europe and spread to North America in 1899 (Canadian Encyclopedia).

2016 10 11 – A student makes her way down University Avenue as the last rays of the setting sun shine between Jeffery Hall and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre.

2016 10 12 – A group of students wait at Scott’s hot dog stand during lunch. Every Wednesday there is a small market at the corner of University and Union on campus.

2016 10 13 – A student makes his way down the stairs behind Jeffery Hall. In the background is Grant Hall with a giant adhesive celebrating Queen’s University’s 175th anniversary.

2016 10 14 – Hundreds of people watch as a 1400 pound pumpkin smashes into the ground at the Benidickson Field behind Kingston Hall. Every year the Queen’s chapter of Engineers Without Boarders runs this fun event.

2016 10 15 – Queen’s Gael #28, Jake Puskas comes close to making a touchdown as a Windsor Lancer tackles him during the Homecoming game. Queen’s defeated Windsor 55-5.

2016 10 16 – The Portsmouth Olympic Harbour is filled with vendors and shoppers during the 47th Annual Gem Storm hosted by the Kingston Lapidary and Mineral Club. This is the last year at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. It is moving to the Cataraqui Arena in June 2017.

2016 10 03 – A student enjoys a quiet space behind Gordon Hall while doing some work on her laptop. Built in 1911, it was home to the chemistry department for 90 years.

2016 10 04 – Kingston Police take measurements at an accident on Taylor Kidd Boulevard near Liston Drive. According to the Kingston Police website a total of 130 calls were reported that day, 5 of which were motor vehicle collisions.

2016 10 05 – A fall coloured maple leaf is contrasted against the hood of a dark car at a rest stop near Port Hope.

2016 10 06 – Occupational therapy masters students at the corner of University Avenue and Union Street discuss various aspects of occupational therapy to students as they walk by. October is the national occupational therapy month in Canada.

2016 10 07 – Beautiful cumulus clouds create a pattern in the sky above a farm field in upper New York State.

2016 10 08 – Two guys look through pockets in the rock at the Herkimer Diamond Mine in Middleville, New York. They are looking for double terminated quartz crystals, known as Herkimer diamonds.

2016 09 26 – A student makes their way along a path towards University Avenue at Queen’s University. Ornamental sweet potato vines flow over the edge of the pot on the right.

2016 09 27 – A students reads something on his phone just before leaving Douglas Library. The southern half of the library was constructed in 1924, while the northern half was added on in 1966.

2016 09 28 – Students work on their laptop along University Avenue on a beautiful afternoon. University Avenue use to be lined with prestigious houses, the only one remaining today is the Agnes Etherington Art Centre.

2016 09 29 – Students identify fossils during their first History of Life lab in Miller Hall. The first lab introduces the concept of biostratigraphy, the use of fossils to create a relative timescale.

2016 09 30 – Queen’s Gael #11, Caroline Livingston, digs the ball during a weekend tournament at the Athletics and Recreation Centre. Queen’s lost the match in three straight sets to Trinity Western Spartans.

2016 10 01 – A player from the York Lions is about to get the ball while a Guelph Gryphon player follows close behind during a Queen’s tournament game at Tindall Field.
