Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2014 12 08 – The Integrated Learning Centre is a Queen’s engineering building that opened in 2004. The building features many sustainable elements such as a three-storey biofilter wall seen through the front window.

2014 12 09 – Large floating docks sit in the parking lot at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour for the winter season. During the summer the harbour supports 300 slip finger docks.

2014 12 10 – Fresh snow covers everything outside of the John Deutsch University Centre after the first moderate snowstorm of the year. On average Kingston receives approximately 40 cm of snow in December.

2014 12 11 – Snow covered landscape at Duncan McArthur Hall. The land originally had a farm and stone quarry, operated by inmates prior to Queen’s purchasing the land in 1969.

2014 12 12 – An increasing population in the mid 1800’s increased the demand for burial locations. Fears of the dead causing disease prompted the need for alternative burial sites. In 1850 the Cataraqui Cemetery Company started and bought 70 acres of land in the village of Cataraqui.

2014 12 13 – Jean Royce Hall is named after Jean Royce. She was the registrar at Queen’s for 35 years (1933 – 1969). Each phase consists of numerous houses, which are named after former faculty and trustees.

2014 12 14 – The Grand Trunk Station, also referred to as the “Outer Station,” was the first train station in Kingston, built in 1856. Located off Montreal Street the limestone walls are all that remain.
