Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2018 04 09 – The next step for this pulverized material will be fire assay and LECO. The fire assay determines the gold concentration and the LECO determines sulfur and carbon concentration.

2018 04 10 – The dried blast hole material in the tins will eventually be crushed and placed into bags like the ones in the background, awaiting pulverizing.

2018 04 11 – A red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) perches on a hydro pole east of Emo, Ontario.

2018 04 12 – I wanted to add a little greenery to my basement apartment, so I picked up another tulip, this time a Tarda Dasystemon.

2018 04 13 – A little ice remains along the sidewalk as warmer weather slowly clears the reminents winter away.

2018 04 14 – Presenters from The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota talks about the Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) while teaching a crowd about birds of prey during the International Falls Outdoor Expo.

2018 04 15 – A ruffed grouse (Bonasa umbellus) strolls into the forest from a path off Highway 613 west of Fort Frances, Ontario. The ruffed grouse is the state bird of Pennsylvania.

2018 04 02 – This is my first attempt at making an Indian dish, Chicken Korma. It turned out pretty well; other then a slight bitterness but I would make it again.

2018 04 03 – A photograph of me scratching an OLG Bingo scratch ticket; It ended up being a winner, only $3, enough to get another one.

2018 04 04 – That time at 1:00 a.m. when you decide it is a good idea to take apart your 17-35 f2.8. It took me 1.5 hours to put it back together. I put the aperture ring on the wrong way.

2018 04 05 – Lead is one of the many materials used as a flux in the assay lab to extract precious metals such as gold.

2018 04 06 – The tulips that I bought from Safeway are starting to open up. They are Orange Princess tulips, also referred to as a Double Late Tulips.

2018 04 07 – A box of Magic: The Gathering Unstable that I picked up the other day. Unstable is Magic’s third silver-bordered Un-set.

2018 03 26 – We use these ALS Minerals booklets to keep track of duplicates, blanks and blind standards that are delivered to the lab. They all help ensure the lab is operating accurately and with precision.

2018 03 27 – It took over two hours but someone eventually came to changed the truck tire. The flat tire occurred at a busy time in the day, they were changing a haul truck tire and a blast was scheduled for that time.

2018 03 28 – Instead of using the typical chocolate chips for these cookies, I used mini Reese's Pieces. Reese's Pieces came out in Canada in 1980, three years after being released in the States.

2018 03 29 – I cooked up a colourful shrimp stir-fry for dinner. Shrimp contribute approximately $1.2 billion annually to Louisiana.

2018 03 30 – Various booster packs of Magic: The Gathering covering the past 3 years is assembled for a chaos draft. The packs are put into a bag and each person pulls a pack, going around until each person has three packs.

2018 03 31 – Ryan casts a spell killing Clinton’s creature while playing at Hometown Hobbies and Crafts in International Falls during Saturday Standard Showdown. There are six sets currently in the Standard format: Kaladesh, Aether Revolt, Amonkhet, Hour of Devastation, Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan.

2018 04 01 – I finally got around to cleaning and folding my clothes. There are so many everyday technology advances that make our lives easier; think of the washing machine, how much it has evolved since the mid-18th century steam powered commercial machines.

2018 03 19 – A little mud darkens the melting snow along the pathway leading to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.

2018 03 20 – An inuksuk stands out on a rock outcrop along Highway 11 between Thunder Bay and Fort Frances. Unlike true Inuit inuksuit that serve a purpose for navigation and certain identification, these are created for fun.

2018 03 21 – One of the many large shovels scoop up material from a blasted block at the mine. These shovels can fill a 220-tone haul truck in approximately 2-bucket loads.

2018 03 22 – A drill awaits an operator while on the 280 bench at the mine.

2018 03 23 – The rays of sun, shine from behind the Northeastern mine wall, as drills work away on a pattern.

2018 03 24 – Lime green cones stand out amongst the grey of the surrounding rock, indicating that the pattern is either being loaded or is loaded for blasting.

2018 03 25 – Yellow stakes are for non-acid generating rock and orange are for potential acid-generating rock. These are two of the seven possible colours that we spray paint the stakes used for ore grade control.
