2018 01 01 – A truck is parked on one of the benches at the mine. In the background you can see the prevailing strike and dip of the metavolcanics, striking 121 degrees, dipping 50-70 degrees south.

2018 01 02 – A flat tire after driving around in the mine, this is pretty common. The tire went flat the other day and they plugged the hole, this time they just replaced it.

2018 01 03 – A cumin encrusted chicken with paprika roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts.

2018 01 04 – Brown sugar, white sugar and butter mixed together, the first few ingredients towards making a batch of chocolate chip cookies.

2018 01 05 – A hydro-line tower just before Fort Frances on Highway 11 is partially silhouetted as the sun begins to set. This is beside the Noden Causeway, which connects the east with Fort Frances. At one point it was part of Young Street, making the world’s longest road.

2018 01 06 – A Dominos pizza awaits consumption, as I have the kitchen table rigged up to edit photos and watch Deadwood.

2018 01 07 – This is a photograph of myself in our Emo, Ontario house that I have been living in for the past month. I have a few more weeks to live here and then I will be moving into a more permanent place.

(31^st Week, Year 5 – 1673 days – 1 missed) 

2017 12 25 – A variety of treats and Christmas décor that was in a Christmas “stocking” box awaiting my return to Emo, Ontario. I wasn’t able to make it home for Christmas, so my mom put this together and sent it to me, didn’t even know it was coming, such a nice surprise.

2017 12 26 – This is the main stretch in International Falls, Minnesota, the small village across the boarder from Fort Frances. This is my first time going into Minnesota and the first central interior state. I cannot wait to explore more.

2017 12 27 – A mound of ground up rock lay outside of a drill hole at the mine. These holes will eventually be filled with explosives and detonated.

2017 12 28 – Beautiful sunny days are deceptive in the winter, this setting sun looks beautiful but it has been exceptionally cold over the past several days reaching temperatures of -39 degrees Celsius (-38.2 F).

2017 12 29 – Ice accumulates on my scarf, eyelids and hair as I breath while working outside at the core shack. It was around -35 degrees Celsius outside, while we were putting away some core.

2017 12 30 – The setting sun cast a beautiful orange glow on some core. Core is drilled from the ground and used to determine the mineralogy and geological structures, helping visualize what lies beneath the ground. Multiple holes are needed to create 3D models.

2017 12 31 – As temperatures remained below -30 degrees Celsius it was time to get some warmer gloves. The black and yellow ones are great for dexterity but the brown ones definitely help in the cold weather.

2017 12 18 – Snow blankets the sky as a 220 tonne haul truck parks for an afternoon meeting.

2017 12 19 – Blowing snow fills the air as it whips across a lake off Highway 11 close to Fort Frances.

2017 12 20 – The salt and mud is washed off my car as I go through an Esso carwash in Thunder Bay. Sodium chloride is the most widely used of the salts, when temperatures dip below -18 degrees Celsius other salts such as Magnesium or Calcium chloride are used.

2017 12 21 – Johnathan strolls along the sidewalk outside his apartment in Thunder Bay before driving him to the airport to fly to the Toronto area for Christmas.

2017 12 22 – Various controls inside a 72 passenger school bus, I drove it for few days while I was back in Thunder Bay.

2017 12 23 – A tugboat breaks up ice along the shoreline of Thunder Bay. In the background you can see a portion of the sleeping giant.

2017 12 24 – Santa hands a gift to one of the kids during a Christmas event at the

Rural 60 Plus Centre east of Kakabeka Falls. I was invited by a co-worker to join her family for Christmas Eve dinner.

2017 12 11 – Cars drive slowly behind a snowplow while heading Northwest towards Fort Frances on Highway 11. I am moving up to Fort Frances to start a new job tomorrow.

2017 12 12 – This is my room for the next month while I search for a permanent place to live; it is in a three bedroom house. The company I’m working for is very accommodating; they provide accommodation while you search for somewhere to live.

2017 12 13 – My new hardhat decked out with earmuffs and a headlamp. I received most of my personal protective equipment the other day to work in the mine.

2017 12 14 – A drill works on preparing a blast pattern early in the evening at the gold mine north of Fort Frances.

2017 12 15 – Muddy steel toed boots and thick high visibility winter pants are just two of the daily attire I wear for work while collecting samples in the pit.

2017 12 16 – A drill works on a blast pattern on the eastern outcrop at the gold mine north of Fort Frances. This outcrop is mostly used for road construction material.

2017 12 17 – Dust and debris are seen filling the air as a blast is set off in the pit; three benches were detonated.
