2014 04 14 – Top: King Street looks like a scene from the early 1900’s with muddy streets and old vehicles as Legendary Pictures films Haunted Peak. Centre: Extras partaking in the filming of a horror movie at Spring Market Square bring to life what it might have looked like 100 years ago. Bottom: Mia Wasikowska, acting as Edith Cushing, takes a break between takes.

2014 04 15 – This galena crystal on quartz is from the Palomo Mine in Peru and is one of the newer specimens to my collection. The crystal is about 2cm x 2cm. Galena’s is a lead ore but other elements are associated with it such as: zinc, cadmium, antimony, arsenic and bismuth.

2014 04 16 – The other day I won $10 on this Lucky Lines ticket. According to the media release this is 1 of 4364 tickets with a $10 bonus win. The odds of winning are 1 in 3.27 and over 3,000,000 tickets were produced.

2014 04 17 – A red squirrel peers over a branch at the Collins Bay hiking trails. The average life span of a red squirrel is 7 years.

2014 04 18 – A titanite crystal (CaTiSiO5) collected in 2012 near Eganville, Ontario at the Lost Mine, part of the Smart Mine. Titanite is monoclinic and can be found in a wide array of colours: transparent, reddish brown, grey, yellow, green or red.

2014 04 19 – A chocolate Easter egg is hidden behind a painting ready to be found in the morning. The word “Easter” comes from Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring. A festival was held in her honour every year at the vernal equinox.

2014 04 20 – An amazing lemon cake created by my cousin for Easter dinner. Cakes have been around for hundreds of years but the nice fluffy cakes we enjoy are due to technological advances in food production around the mid 1800’s.
