Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2017 02 27 – The new residential units at the corner of Wellington Street and Brock Street are coming closer to completion. The previous law office of Sir John A. MacDonald has been under construction for several years. Past photographs are on: 2014 05 17 and 2014 12 30

2017 02 28 – A northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) perches on a branch in a cedar at Lemoine Point Conservation Area. It is sometimes referred to as the redbird or common cardinal.

2017 03 01 – Water flows around some rocks in a stream off Burbrook Road in Kingston, north of highway 401. A few fresh woodchips can be seen on the left rock, what appears to be the recent activity of a beaver.

(Nikon D7000 w 17-35 f2.8 @25mm f16 0.5sec. I.S.O. 640)

2017 03 02 – A great grey owl (Strix nebulosa) perches on top of a fence post at Lemoine Point Conservation Area. The great grey is North America’s longest owl and is sometimes referred to as the Phantom of the North.

(Nikon D7000 w 80-400 f4.5-5.6 @300mm f7.1 1/160th I.S.O. 800)

2017 03 03 – A female northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) perches on a branch at Lemoine Point Conservation Area. It is the state bird for seven states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.

(Nikon D7000 w 80-400 f4.5-5.6 @400mm f8 1/320th I.S.O. 800)

2017 03 04 – Icicles cling to cedar branches along the Lake Ontario shoreline at Lemoine Point Conservation Area. After several warm days, temperatures returned to winter conditions producing the icy shoreline.

(Nikon D7000 w 17-35 f2.8 @17mm f8 0.4sec. I.S.O. 100)

2017 03 05 – Beautiful colours of the setting sun are seen through our next-door neighbour’s crab apple tree (Malus). Next week we gain one more hour of sunlight in the evening, as the clocks jump forward.
