Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2016 05 17 – A Sydenham Golden Eagles player heads the ball as a Kingston Blues player tries to get it during a KASSAA senior girls semifinal game. The Golden Eagles pushed through with a 2-1 win.

2016 05 18 – The setting sun shines through some maple leaves (Acer saccharum). It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup.

2016 05 19 – Players from the La Salle Black Knights and Regiopolis-Notre Dame Panthers attempt to get a hold of the ball during a line-out in the KASSAA senior boys rugby championship. The Black Knights defeated the Panthers 15-7, finishing the season undefeated.

2016 05 09 – A red squirrel holds on to a branch just off the Kingston & Pembroke Trail. The trail covers 15km starting near the Little Catraqui Conservation area at Highway 401 and carries on to Orser Road north of Kingston.

2016 05 10 – A Kingston Blues girl’s rugby player tackles a La Salle Black Knights player during a regular season game at Queen Elizabeth Collegiate. The Black Knights defeated the Blues 12-0.

2016 05 11 – A specimen of andradite garnet (Ca3Fe2(SiO4)3) recently collected from the Marmoraton Iron Mine in Marmora, Ontario. This specimen also has epidote, magnetite and pyrite.

2016 05 12 – Newly planted Tulipa Triumph Gavota brighten up the flower bed in front of the John Deutsch University Center at Queen’s University.

2016 05 13 – A Holy Cross Crusader and a Regiopolis-Notre Dame Panther reach for the ball during a line-out at the KASSAA semifinal game. The Panthers maintained control of the ball shutting out the Crusaders 27-0.

2016 05 02 – A La Salle Black Knights player makes contact with the ball while taking on the Kingston Blues during a regular season KASSAA senior boys soccer game at La Salle. The Blues ended up winning 4-2.

2016 05 03 – A Regiopolis-Notre Dame Panthers player tackles a Holy Cross Crusader during a regular season KASSAA girls rugby at Regi. The Panthers maintained control of the ball winning 22-5.

2016 05 05 – The shadow of a tree is cast on a rustic barn off Millhaven Road west of Kingston.

2016 05 06 – A Napanee Golden Hawks senior boys rugby player is tackled by two Frontenac Falcon players during a KASSAA regular season game at Frontenac. The Golden Hawks fell short loosing the game 7-5.

2016 05 07 – Members of the Kawartha Rock and Fossil Club look over waste piles at the Marmoraton Iron Mine in Marmora, Ontario during a special collecting trip. The mine operated from 1950 to 1977.

2016 05 08 – A dragonfly takes a rest on a dead stick north of Frontenac Provincial Park. The largest dragonfly known had a wingspan of 2.5 feet and lived during the carboniferous, 300 million years ago.

2016 04 25 – A sample of scapolite (Na4Al3Si9O24Cl) collected in 2014 from the Craigmont Corundum Mine in Craigmont, Ontario. This was the largest producing corundum mine in the late 1800’s.

2016 04 26 – I bought this specimen of azurite (Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2) from David Joyce at the Bancroft Club mineral sale. It comes from Tsumeb, Namibia, a location well known for its minerals.

2016 04 27 – A chipmunk stands still on a piece of wood at Lemoine Point Conservation Area. Chipmunks are the smallest members of the squirrel family.

2016 04 28 – A blastoid collected from the Arkona Shale Formation at Hungry Hollow, Ontario. They are within the phylum Echinodermata, which includes starfish, sea urchins and sea cucumbers.

2016 04 29 – A Kingston Blues girl’s rugby player tackles a Holy Cross Crusader during a regular Kingston Area Secondary School Athletics Association game. Holy Cross controlled the ball most of the game winning 37-0.

2016 04 30 – A Platyceras collected in April from the Arkona Shale Formation in Hungry Hollow, Ontario. Platyceras is a genus within the phylum Mollusca, Class Gastropoda.

2016 05 01 – A sample of fluorite collected in Madoc. Fluorite has excellent refractive properties, the ability to bend light, and is used in the production of high quality optics.
