2014 08 25 - Jean Royce Hall, a series of “houses” that make up one of the many residences at Queen’s University located on west campus. This will be my home for the next 8 months while being a residence don.

2014 08 26 – Various breakfast foods at the Ban Righ Cafeteria during residence don training. Ban Righ is the oldest residence at Queen’s University built between 1923 – 25.

2014 08 27 – Victoria Hall stands in the background amongst the beautiful blue sky. It is the largest of the Queen’s residence and was named after Queen Victoria.

2014 08 28 – Grant Hall is one of the most notable buildings on Queen’s campus. It was used as a military hospital during the First World War.

 2014 08 29 – Cam poses for a photograph at the end of residence life training banquet at Ban Righ Hall. It signifies the end of the last two weeks of seminars, practical role-playing and team building.

2014 08 30 – Kerri gets her photograph taken at Fairfield Park near Amherstview. She has a neurological disorder that is causing the spine to swell and to loose control of her hind legs.

2014 08 31 – A group of first year University students at Queen’s University get to know one another during an ice breaker activity. Over the next three days they will be learning various aspects of Queen’s.

2014 08 18 – Queen’s residence life workers (resident dons, residence facilitators, judicial affairs and co-dons) listen as Carmen (Jean Royce Hall / Harkness - Residence Life Coordinator) discuss a few aspects of training during the Welcome BBQ.

2014 08 19 – Dew covered grass glistens in the sunlight as the trees cast shadows early in the morning. Every morning we meet up at 7:20 a.m. to walk from Jean Royce Hall to main campus.

2014 08 20 – Several Queen’s University residence life staff from Jean Royce Hall and Harkness partake in the “ice bucket challenge,” for ALS. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a rapidly progressive, neuromuscular disease also known in the U.S. as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Muscles loose their strength over time leading to atrophy (loss of functionality).

2014 08 21 – Queen’s University Residence Life Manager, Chauncey has several buckets of ice cold water dumped over him during an “ice bucket challenge.” The affects of the ice cold water is supposed to give the person momentary lose of muscle control, representing the affects of ALS.

2014 08 22 – Various residence life staff watch something on the laptop while waiting for a training session to start.

2014 08 23 – Emily relaxes in a hammock while at Grass Creek Park, 15 minutes east of Kingston, during residence life training. The group partook in various team-building activities, while also enjoying some free time.

2014 08 24 – A Queen’s University football player is tackled by a player from Concordia during an exhibition game at Richardson Stadium. Queen’s lost to Concordia 25 – 18.

2014 08 11 – Female mallard ducks stand on a rock alongside a pond near the Humber River. Both males and females have speculum feathers, the iridescent blue patch.

2014 08 12 – A small channel that formed as running water eroded the sand along the beach at the Bancroft Tent and Trailer Camp after a day of rain.

2014 08 13 – A guy edges into a wave while kiteboarding in Lake Ontario off Breakwater Park in Kingston. Today’s wind speeds ranged from 20 to 26 knot (37 to 48 km/h).

2014 08 14 – Bubbles form around a straw in a glass of ginger ale at the South Algonquin Eatery and Pub in Bancroft, Ontario. In the late 1700’s Joseph Priestly discovered the ability to dissolve carbon dioxide into water while at a brewery and the initial development of sodas was formed.

2014 08 15 – Potatoes sit in front a pot about to be boiled while members of the Bancroft Tent and Trailer Camp prepare for Saturday’s RibFest. Thirty-three racks of ribs were prepared for the barbeque.

2014 08 16 – Members of the Bancroft Tent and Trailer Camp remove ribs off the barbeque after smoking them for six hours. Almost every weekend the park hosts a dinning event, everything from roast beef on a bun to a full pig roast.

2014 08 17 – This is going to be my new room until the end of April, room 206 of Roy House at Jean Royce Hall. Moved in today and ready for two weeks of training in preparation for being a residence don.

2014 08 04 – A guy does a back flip off the pier at the water treatment plant in Kingston during the civic holiday Monday. The temperature hovered around 34 degrees Celsius midday with humidity.

2014 08 05 – Dallas glides through the still water of Marble Lake as the sun sets during his first ever experience kayaking.

2014 08 06 – A green frog sits amongst the reeds at Marble Lake. A group of frogs is called an army.

2014 08 07 – The eye of a bullfrog peers out from the reeds as the sunsets across Marble Lake. Females lay on average 20,000 eggs, which are then externally fertilized by the male.

2014 08 08 – Keegan and Makaila are photographed with their newly born baby girl Adelaine at Marble Lake.

2014 08 09 – A father and daughter look through a rock pile while on a Bancroft & District Chamber of Commerce Mineral Collecting Tour to the Beryl Pit. Canadian Beryllium was the first to mine the area in the 1930’s shipping the material to Germany.

2014 08 10 – People walk along the Dundas Street West as construction workers get ready to pour cement while replacing Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) tracks along Spadina Avenue. The two month long construction is expected to be completed August 30^th.

2014 07 28 - A spring peeper clings to the moss of an old tree in a forest near Tory Hill, Ontario. The spring peeper has an estimated life span of 3 years, only growing to the size of a paper clip.

2014 07 29 - Various participants on a mineral collecting tour dig through the soil looking for minerals at the Schickler Fluorite Mine near Wilberforce, Ontario. The minerals formed roughly 1.2 billion years ago in calcite veins and now are found loose in the soil.

2014 07 30 – John (Jake Jr.) de Vries of the Fade Kings performs during the Mineral Capital Concert Series at Millennium Park. They perform a wide range of music such as: R&B, Blues, Jazz, and Classic Rock.

2014 07 31 – A few people from the Bancroft Tent and Trailer Camp fish as evening sets in on Marble Lake. Several different fish can be caught in the lake such as: Rock Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Sunfish, Perch and Rainbow Trout.

2014 08 01 – A pig is carved for a pulled pork dinner at the Bancroft & District Chamber of Commerce during an evening event during the 51^st Rockhound Gemboree.

2014 08 02 – Rockhounds look through the newly excavated area of the Beryl Pit during one of the 51^st Rockhound Gemboree mineral collecting tours. Trips ran every day, Thursday to Sunday, going to Craigmont, Bear Lake Diggings, the Beryl Pit and the Rose Quartz Quarry.

2014 08 03 – A new store or restaurant is seen reflected in a puddle off Bell Boulevard in Belleville where the Zellers parking lot use to be. Two restaurant chains, Shoeless Joe’s and Panera Bread, will be building stand-alone restaurants.
